Gig Review – Sapphire Lane + Gimme Stitches + Shoot The Poets 2nd September @ The Central

If you love your Indie Rock then you definitely need to check out these bands, I came across them at The Central at a gig hosted by Monkey Mountain – who specialise in championing young raw talent in Nottingham, organising gigs and advertising.

SAPPHIRE LANE wowed the crowd with lead singer Kirsty Davis’ powerful vocals and a bassist with some amazing talent and the skinniest jeans I have EVER seen! Sapphire Lane have had a challenging couple of years since their inception in 2008, with a change of singer and even a legal dispute with an American jewelery store of the same name! But despite all that Sapphire Lane have managed to gig at a number of venues around Nottingham and gained a loyal following – keep your eyes on these guys for the future! And watch out for an EP being released soon.

GIMME STITCHES were up next with their own twist on a Blink 182 esk-sound – I loved it – and I wasnt the only one, the crowd especially loved their drummer who looked like justin bieber on a MASSIVE caffine high! Gimme Stitches were having no rest, playing song after song, drummer ‘Wino’ definitely would have felt the effect afterwards, as vocalist ‘Sicky’ was using his t-shirt to wipe his sweat off – nice!

SHOOT THE POETS closed the night with a spectacular, short but ever so sweet performance, unfortunately to a smaller crowd – seriously check these guys out they need your support, you won’t be disappointed. Shoot The Poets have also got an EP just launched out now, funded and supported by Monkey Mountain.

All these bands put on a great performance, and all deserve more recognition for their hard work – keep your eyes on these ones!

Gig Review – Way Of The Atom, Rise Again & Severn @ The Old Angel

The Old Angel isn’t just known for its great burgers, it’s also renowned for boasting fantastic live shows just like last night!

WAY OF THE ATOM have been out of our webpages for quite some time now so it’s great to see them back in action. When we last caught up with the band a few months ago they were playing their first few shows, but you wouldn’t think that now. Their performance showed real growth since those early days, playing their own unique blend of metal with a new found sense of purpose and urgency that made their set such a great spectacle to see– nicely done chaps!

RISE AGAIN are new to the Notts Unsigned massive and these hard rockers really impressed. Their sound translates perfectly live with their fast paced, melodic metal creating immense energetic vibes in band and crowd alike. Be sure to check them out when they next stroll into town.

SEVERN are quickly becoming metal legends around these parts and the Nottinghamshire masses turned out in force to see what all the fuss was about. There was a lot to prove for the guys last night with a new lead singer to showcase and a hype to live up to, but they certainly silenced any doubters. Their set was filled with great energy, great musical skill and great tunes. The addition of Michael Dabbs has truly given the band an extra dimension with his sensational vocal abilities and an onstage swagger that will no doubt have all the ladies in the palm of his hand very soon!

If you want to relive some of the magic of last night’s antics then why not check out Future Session 23 featuring those epic headliners SEVERN:
